Jim's Story
Still single, never been married! I guess nobody can take a clown like me! I spent 3 years in the Army right out of high school & was in Germany for 2.5 years of that. Quite an experience for Little Jimmy Callahan from Prospect! After the Army, I bummed around a bit, rode a motorcycle out to Colorado, then hitch hiked back to Prospect because the bike got stolen. I came to Daytona Beach to see a NASCAR race in February & I was hooked on the warm weather & the scantily clad women! I worked around at different garages fixing trucks for a few years before venturing into my own truck & diesel repair business in 1988. I'm still at it even though times are a bit tough. The high fuel prices pretty much ran all the little guys out of business, so there's not as many junk trucks out there to fix. But, being the handy SOB I am, I have diversified & have a couple of side lines that pay the lunch bill! S...Expand for more
o, if you end up in Daytona Beach, look for the guy working on the side of I-95, fixing trucks, wearing a tropical shirt & shorts!
June 2021 Update
I'm still working, although not as ambitiously as I was accustomed to. The diesel repair business is still holding on. I don't go out along the highway being a hero any more. Modern technology forced me out of that scene - complicated electronic diesels and inattentive drivers glued to their cell phones. I've been hooked up with the city of Daytona Beach for a while, repairing their heavy equipment and trucks as needed. Gotta love that outsourcing thing! My other sideline, hydraulic jack repair, turned into a pretty lucrative venture and I eventually bought out my jack parts supplier when he wanted to retire. I have the parts I need for my repairs and I provide replacement parts to small companies throughout the country that still repair jacks.
